What is an odometer disclosure statement?
It is a declaration the transferor (seller) makes to the transferee (buyer) stating how many miles the vehicle has been driven.

When is an odometer disclosure statement required?
An odometer reading is required whenever a transfer has occurred, with the exception of vehicles ten or more model years old, vehicles over 16,000 pounds gross vehicle weight, vehicles that are not self-propelled, and new vehicles (with MCO) sold dealer to dealer.

What if a vehicle is 10 or more years old but the customer wants the mileage shown on the title?
When the owner of a motor vehicle that is 10 or more years old wishes to have an odometer reading shown on his title with an “actual” designation, he must obtain disclosures for every transfer that has occurred since the last title with an odometer reading was issued. In lieu of this, he may obtain a report from a records vendor such as Carfax provided these records provide the necessary odometer information.
